About ALYN Hospital

Specialized rehabilitation that helps children participate more fully in everyday life.

ALYN Hospital is one of the world’s leading pediatric rehabilitation facilities and the only centre of its kind in Israel. Its multidisciplinary teams work with infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired physical disabilities. Rehabilitation is designed around each child and family, combining medical care, therapy, education and practical tools that strengthen mobility, communication, daily function and independence at home and in the community.

Explore ALYN Hospital’s history

ALYN has been advancing care for children with physical disabilities in Jerusalem for generations. Its history reflects a continuing commitment to specialized rehabilitation, multidisciplinary expertise and practical support for children and families.

1932

ALYN was founded as a voluntary organization by Dr. Henry Keller, an American orthopaedic surgeon who dedicated his life to working with children in Jerusalem.

Late 1940s-1950s

During Israel’s polio epidemic, the Ministry of Health allocated a former Orthodox monastery in Jerusalem’s San Simon neighbourhood for use as an emergency hospital, enabling ALYN to respond to the growing need for children’s care and rehabilitation.

1971

ALYN inaugurated its purpose-built hospital and rehabilitation campus in Jerusalem’s Kiryat Yovel neighbourhood, now known as the ALYN Woldenberg Family Hospital.

Today, ALYN combines clinical care, education, assistive technology, research and innovation to help children and adolescents build greater function, independence and participation.
